tpms abarth 500 2008 yes or no

I am getting ready to order aftermarket wheels for my Abarth, and I am wondering what happens with the TPMS system when you dont have stock wheels? Is it simply non-functional, or is there something you have to do to keep the warning light from coming on? Better yet, can it be used with aftermarket wheels? Thanks
