Please help to get going

Post by Crewey » 17 Dec 2017, 18:12

Hi,
I'm completely new to this.
I have an Alfa GT 08 and want to be able to perform proxy alignments and clear fault codes.
I plan to buy the Registered version.
Will this do what I want?
Also, what cable do I need?
I can't get my head round the supported vehicles bit.
Many thanks
Crewey.

Yes MES will be able to do what you want to do.

Understanding the vehicle supported information is not as bad as you think.

For each vehicle Node/ECU the required Communication Device/Interface and cable adapter/modification is listed.

You don't say which engine you have but if we assume for example the 1.8L 16V petrol then this is what you will see:

Bosch Motronic Me7.3.1 EOBD Injection |INFO|DTC|DTC EX|PRM|ACT|ADJ| KL ELM

INFO = information supported - basic ECU information - ISO code, part number, etc
DTC = diagnostic Trouble Code supported - reading and resetting of DTCs
DTC EX = DTC extended
PRM = parameters supported - reading & display of things like voltage, pressure, vehicle speed, rpm, etc etc
ACT = actuator operation supported - e.g. open/close injectors, turn fan on/off, etc
ADJ = adjustments supported - e.g. throttle position learning, clutch pedal learning, oil change reset, etc

KL = KKL interface required
ELM = ELM interface required

Note in this example then either a KKL or and ELM interface can be used.

If we now look at the Bosch ABS 5.7 |INFO|DTC|DTC EX|PRM|ACT|ADJ| KL ELM A1
we get the same information and this tells us that a KKL or ELM interface is required WITH ADAPTOR A1

If we now look at Siemens Airbag MY99 |INFO|DTC|PRM|ACT| KL A2
then there is no DTC EX or ADJ support, ONLY a KKL interface will work and only WITH ADAPTOR A2

NOTE! If you get the expensive MULTIPLEXED version then KL, ELM and Adaptors are not required at all because the Multiplex interface supports all the protocols and has internal switching to change all the connections around as required thus adaptors are not require.

I hope the above helps.
