QUBO AIRBAG FAULT PLEASE SEE HANDBOOK plus Several Error codes

Post by frogsuk » 07 Jul 2017, 19:41

Here goes and it’s a long one but please bear with me and read it until the end
I’m Having a problem with my 2014 Qubo 1.3 and changed the battery which cured an on-going stop start fault, but doing that threw up an Airbag fault and flashing Odometer millage.
I telephoned Fiat Italy who notified me that there was an ECU service upgrade on the ECU for Alternator and Heater plugs on my vin number and was informed that it may also clear the Airbag issue.

My Car went into main Fiat dealer to have a service upgrade recall on ECU for Alternator and Heater plugs and it threw up a load more codes for which I have attached a picture of the Fiat main dealers report. Image

The Fiat garage cleared the codes when doing the ECU update but said they said some had returned.

The car is converted by a company called Sirus so I can drive it from my wheelchair so Fiat only cover engine and transmission under warranty for 3 years, the rest is down to me!
Any ideas appreciated.

On one note, as some as you turn the ignition on, the fuel gauge goes to E straight away then goes to normal level, also every time the car starts, the mileage flashes and the date and time go to 1 JAN and 00:00.

I also took my Qubo to gendan.co.uk in Swansea who are specialists in car diagnostic tools and systems and very kindly gave the Qubo ECU a scan on their diagnostic equipment and tried to clear the faults also. They also installed MultiECUScan 3.7 on my Panasonic Toughbook and supplied me with an OBCLink SX scanner and all appropriate Fiat leads along with tuition of how to use it. ( Gendan were brilliant and I have no problem recommending them! ).

I took several print screen shoots which are at the end of this posting and I have also attached 3 of the MES logs

and will have to do a further post for the remanding 3 logs as the forum phpBB software will only allow me to post 3 attachments at a time.

(Please see the end of this post for MES screen prints)

I have also included here a report from my own Delphi DS150E scanner on WOW to compare. (MES FOR FIAT IS FAR BETTER!)

So to this end, I would really appreciate any helpful input that would point me in the right direction so I can eradicate these faults as I have had them for almost a month now!

PLEASE HELP!

If you need me to carry out any other tests that may help solve this, please ask.

The car runs and drives great apart from the friging flashing miles and AIRBAG FAULT PLEASE SEE HANDBOOK

Suggest you just connect to the car and ONLT do:

1) Read of Error codes followed by

2) Body Computer CAN connection followed by

3) Execute Proxi Alignment

Then hit the "Send Report" button on lower right of main home panel.

Now sent Email to MES Support.

You can also point them at you post but I note from you Proxi text file:

"Writing to module: Body Computer Node (NBC) FAILED! - Request out of range error"

This is probably the key root cause of the Flashing speedo.

Also I do not know what MES does on your "Airbag Not Supported" status. I assume it can extract and reset codes (which it appears to do) but clearly you will not be able to connect and get any parameters. However I've no idea what happens for the Proxi procedure.

Ok, All scaned and sent as suggested, Still can't physicly find anything wrong with wiring and checked all earths and models are connected properly. Hopefully someone with a bit more Fiat knoledge than me can throw some light on my problem.

Since defect that describe the fault is odometer.
Did you try to change it with the same used?

No as everything on speedo works with no problem.
When the ignition is turned on the fuel gauge goes straight to E then returns to its correct level.
The mileage starts flashing its correct mileage and all trips are set to 0.
It is showing the AIrbag light when the engine starts, then it goes out for about 3 seconds then the Airbag light comes back on, and then the Airbag message comes on for 10 seconds then disappears leaving the warning light still on.
The mileage registers correctly while driving but continues to flash and the time clock flashes from 0:00 and the date says We'd Jan 1st.

It works in part, as it does not communicate with the otherECU.
I did the same thing with a Fiat Punto, the odometer had the same defect.
I changed odometer, made proxy alignment and everything came back perfect.

:D After advice from Yani in email, (BIG THANKS MATE and respect!)
Tonight I checked the wiring from the instrument cluster and managed to clear the fault. It was in the wiring on the fuse line for the cluster giving a low voltage and throwing up the fault. All clear now :-) parts used 20cm of wire soldered in place and heat shrink to cover. Clear faults, proxi alinment not needed! All great. No thanks to Fiat dealer who left me high and dry when vehicle is still under warranty! And vehicle disabled adaptation specialist who said the fault was not theirs! Bloke in a wheelchair with a MultiECUscan and laptop and this forum and and support from Yani got this sorted. Brilliant! Thanks :-D

I think that my issue is just like yours as the cluster has been checked , but the is definitely loss of amps on the fuse etc .
Can yo explain where you soldered the wires from
