Fiat 500 (2008) unable to connect to ECU

Post by Mark500 » 25 Jun 2017, 15:54

Wanting to reset my service coupons and intervals on my 58 plate Fiat 500, thought this would be a simple operation as I've used programs such as vagcom before, appears I was wrong.

Ive downloaded the free version of software version 3.6 and I have the ELM 327 lead and Yellow adapter (below are the links of the items I purchased)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271275445368

Have installed all the drivers etc, once connected to the car all I'm getting is "connection failed EML327->ECU connection failed Check Cable and serial port settings!"

F9 Settings are as follows:

Interface type : elm327 1.3/1.4/1.4b/2.1
Serial port : Com 5 (USB serial port) 38400.

Test comes back with "This interface is compatible with ELM 327 1.4 Should connect properly with all CAN modules

I've also noticed that it sometimes triggers an airbag warning or fuel cut off disabled warning which seems strange as I cannot connect to the car?

Any help appreciated as I'm beginning to get frustrated with the whole process.
