Cannot Assign Port to Interface

Post by Bobulon » 22 Dec 2016, 04:52

Hi, just got the interfaces from iDiagnostics and followed the installation instructions (have a Dell laptop) downloaded the driver for the interface and installed it but there was no Port assigned to it and when I go into properties for the interface there is no option to assign a port. Consequently when I try to connect to my ECU (I have an Alfa 147 GTA) I get an error saying "Port 1 doesnt exist" How can I assign a port to the interface please? Thanks for any help

Well I'm here

The only thing I can think of is that you have not downloaded correctly the driver *files*. The driver package should have a .INF *and* a .CAT file.

If you are using Windows 8 and above then you MUST have BOTH files as Windows 8 does not allow the use of unsigned drivers and the .cat is the driver's security catalog file!

Hi s130, thanks for your reply. Where do I get the drivers, google has nothing when I search for multiecuscan drivers

You supplier I-Diagnostics should have supplied the drivers. MES is software only.

If your interface is an ELM unit then you need the FTDI Chip Drivers. www.ftdichip.com

Hi, thanks for the reply and sorry for the extremely delayed response as I have been overseas away from my car for a long time. I already had the ELM drivers installed as per the instructions that came with my cables. On the FTDI site there are 3 kinds of drivers, VCP, D2XX and D3XX. Which one do I need to install? It seems to be some kind of virtual com port driver. Thanks

Use the VCP (Virtual COM Port) Driver. That will work.
