FES won't connect with Adapter Cable 3

Post by unas » 27 Jul 2011, 17:03

Hi guys,
I got a problem with Multiecuscan and the Adapter Cable 3.
I use a cheap USB ELM327 from ebay ( I made a picture of the internals: http://h8.abload.de/img/cimg0824pn8w.jpg )
which can properly connect to the things which dont need an adapter cable (green marked) but the rest needs the adapter cable 3, which I bought from the authorized distributor for germany.
But it always says "Cant connect to ECU", no matter what I try.

Are there any special settings I need to do ?

Btw: I also tried Scanmaster ELM, which works fine with the ELM (of course without the without adapter cable 3)

Hi,

Looks like a faulty adaptor.
Can you measure the connections on the adapter using an ohmmeter?
It needs to have the following connections:
FEMALE CONNECTOR -> MALE CONNECTOR
16 -> 16
4,5 -> 4,5
6 -> 1
14 -> 9

Also, pins 1 and 9 on the male connector should not have short circuit to any other pins.

Regards,
Yani

I measured it, all connections are as you said, so the adapter cable seems to be fine.

Is it possible that the ELM327 is crap and cant do all ISO protocols?

Please send me a report using the red "Send Report" button on Multiecuscan main screen after trying to connect to some of the problematic modules so that I can see if there is some specific error message from the ELM.

I saw the log file. There seems to be nothing wrong with the software of the ELM. It accepts all commands, but it responds that it cannot connect to the ECU.
It is possible that the ELM interface has electric problem as in viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1493
Can you get another ELM interface from someone and test with it?

Hm thats weird because it can connect to the motor ECU and read all the data from it...
There wont be an easy way to find out what electric modification is needed?

I cant get my handy on another one, I think Iam going to buy a third one (the first was a chinese bluetooth one which is already broken)

I'm not exactly sure if the problem is in the ELM interface.
It could be either the ELM interface, the adapter, or problem at the OBD connector of the car.

Can you test your interface and the adapter on another car?

You've checked that the correct connections ARE there.
Have you checked that there aren't any additional connections that should not be there?
If any of the pins in the adaptor translate to pins that they shouldn't, it could cause problems.
