ecu not responding Fiat Stilo 1.9JTD 2003

Post by iradanke » 18 Jun 2011, 14:06

Hi I am new to this so forgive my ignorance.
I have the vag com lead (USB - OBDII) which I successfully used to connect to my Audi A4 see images enclosed.

Top view no dip switches present

When I search for leads it is successfully found and identified as Vag Com lead.
When I try to connect to ECU it tells me no response.
Changed drivers for the FTDI ones.
Disabled wireless connection
I checked made sure all settings on COM port marked those in the FAQ.
scanned the postings and have not found what I am looking for.
The nearest I found seemed to indicate I need to connect into a 3 pin plug on the head near to the ECU? Is this correct cannot go through the plug arrangement I have? if so where do I find the correct wiring arrangement?
Do I need the Vag Com cable with the dip switches or have I completely missed something?
Any guidance gratefully received
Regards
Ian

Tried another laptop and all works perfectly with cable and FTDI drivers. The difference between two laptops is the first one had multiple com ports created by Toshiba blue tooth drivers that I couldn't get rid off.
So hopefully that might help somebody else with similar problems.
