[SOLVED] ELM 327 V1.4 => Test faulty => Timeout

Post by Ramel » 21 May 2011, 12:47

Hello to all,

first thank you for this SW and forum !
I have a brand new ELM 327 V1.4 (P/N 9016). It looks like this one Image

The back side says V1.4 and Baud Rate 38400.

I tried to perform a test in the settings with several speeds. Each time, I had a timeout error after the first test "COMMAND: ATZ"

Therefore, I tried to get into the settings of the COM3 port, to also put the speed at 38400, and redid the tests in multiecuscan with several speeds, still timeout. I tried to "scan for device" and list remains empty...

I'm starting thinking that the device is faulty. However, the first LED is permanently red when connected to the computer.

Can you please tell m if there are some more tests I can do, before asking the seller to exchange it ?

PC config : W7

[EDIT] I saw the post concerning the resistors and so on, but there is written that it works only when the tests are OK and the connection to the vehicle fails...

Did you connect the interface to a car when doing these test?
Some of the ELM interfaces draw power from the OBD port and need to be connected to a vehicle in order to work.

Hello

In my experience, do these not v1.4 CAN
It can usually only a connection to the airbag ECU or ABS are made.

The only ones that work well v1.3
With all the other problems I have

Sorry, there are now hardly v1.3. Almost all the dealers are only offering v1.4 or v1.5 to

Greetings Eddy

Sorry for my english

Hello to both of you, and thanks for your time !
No, till yet I didn't try to plug it on the car. I thought it would be better to make sure that it works in a test mode before connecting it to the car.

However, if some interfaces need some power from the car, I will try this and come back to you right after. Maybe I have time tomorrow to do this. Otherwise, as soon as I can, I keep you posted if tht connection to the car changes something.

And for the 1.3 interfaces, I think I saw on this site that my Alfa 159 2?4 JTDM could be linked to V1.3+, therefore including the 1.4 . If it was not the case, then I might be your "beta tester" ;)

Hi,
no, you have to test the interface when it's connected to your's OBD car soket..
The main power and ground are taken form the car and not the usb..

If you have problem to connect to some can bus ecu maybe you have a fault interface..

I have tested one sell from the italian distributor with the same label into the back, and have the 2 capacitor c15 and C14 of the wrong capacity... about 100 mf istead of 560 pf..

If you need these are the schema form the Yani post..

And this is the image with the 2 capacitor you need to change...

Hi and thank you all for your opinions. I had no chance to try it this week end... I shall let you know as soon as I tried. I will connect to the car and test the device. If this is the solution then I will let you know.

Hello to all, I finally had 5 min to try this on the car and guess what : you were all right ! The led was on when connected to the PC, but when you plug it into the car, it shines much more. Now I could connect properly.

Thank you Yani for this SW ! Just missing to run on MAC and it will be perfect ;)

By the way, I confirm that V1.4 is working well on my Alfa 159 2,4 JTDM.

HI!!!
I have bought ELM327 and installed driver for it on Windows 7 (http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm) 32bit.
I have chosen my car in selection (Alfa Romeo 159 2.2JTS 16V), in settings menu defined ELM 327 v 1.3+ and correct port (COM6) and correct speed 38400 but multiecuscan can not connect to my car. Though, TEST shows that everything is OK.

Please HELP!!!
