Grande Punto 2005, steering wheel controls testable?
Hello
I´ve got a Question:
Is it possible to test the controls on the steering wheel with FES/MES?
My Radio doesn´t react if I push the "mute" oder "louder" button and now I would like to find the fault.
Could anyone help me please?
EDIT: I´m sorry for posting in wrong section

Hello newlife81,
Multiecuscan with this test not done yet, but I suggest you first try the error diagnosed with disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 2mins then try but always in the context of ignition

Do you have the original car audio? Does hour horn work? Don't you have SRS/AirBag fault indicator lit?
Re: Grande Punto 2005, steering wheel controls testable?
Hi und thanks for your help.
I put in an original car audio, bevor there where build in an other radio.
My horn works fine and I don´t have any fault indicator lit.
May ist be the wrong original Radio?

Doe it mean that only these 2 buttons do not work and the other buttons work fine?newlife81 wrote:My Radio doesn´t react if I push the "mute" oder "louder" button and now I would like to find the fault.

yes! that´s right
Re: Grande Punto 2005, steering wheel controls testable?
That is strange. See the wiring diagram of Grande Punto steering wheel control.
The Mute, Vol+ and Vol- buttons are on the same wires. So, if one of the wires is interrupted then the 3 buttons should not work.
It is possible that these 2 buttons buttons are damaged.

i´ve heard about this fact and the functionality with the resistors.
it may be the controls (about 65€ at the Dealer), but I can´t eliminate possibility that the fault is caused of the (wrong / broken) head unit.

Deciding if the buttons or the head unit are are fault should not be that difficult to do.
If a good quality volt meter is connected between terminals 35 & 50 and 35 & 52 then when each of the buttons is pressed you should see different voltages. With no button pressed then the voltage will be high (by high I mean non zero). When the Mute button is pressed the voltage should drop a little. When the Vol+ is pressed is should drop a little further. When the Vol- is pressed the voltage should drop the most.
Alternatively you can unplug the key unit (DO47) cable and do resistive measurements instead.
Assuming the resistors used are of similar/same value on the Volume and Source/Scan banks then you should be able to also detect internal breaks, shorts or permanently stuck buttons.

Hi to all, tzok wrote:Do you have the original car audio? Does hour horn work? Don't you have SRS/AirBag fault indicator lit?
I have a similar problem and i have the airbag fault indicator, also i want to say that my buttons works but not as they should work, sometime dont work at all and sometimes they work but for example, when i press the -volume button the volume rise and when i press the +volume button the music is putted on pause or mute, and also sometimes they work well, i suppose it have different actions depending from steering wheel position. The airbag fault indicator is not always on is turning on and off when i drive the car. Thank you very much and i`m sorry if i have a bad english. Have a nice day.
