diesel hot plugs

Post by alfadave11 » 18 Nov 2011, 12:07

there are plenty of diesel engines out there and as your probably aware they have the usual flashing plug warning
majority of garages tend to fit new plugs and new control box which is expensive

what i would like to see if resistance values of the hotplugs to ascertain if its a control box issue or a poor plug or a wiring fault

im sure i would get thumbs up all round for this so come on YANI work ya wonders on all diesel ecu's :P

That's not possible... The ECU is not measuring the resistance of the glow plugs.
It is usually very easy to unplug the connector from the control box and measure each glow plug with an Ohmmeter.

Is it possible to change heating time or temperature when heat plugs are activated? Car Alfa 159 2,4 JTDm
I think that more heating time and higher activation temperature would improve engine start here in Finland.

Heating time is already determined by the T°. The issue is also cold oil that makes the cranking slugish. Use the proper engine oil. Also depress the clutch pedal while cranking the engine. Don't insist the first time. Doing so, the battery heats up a bit and therefore is able to supply a higher current thereafter.
Have a good battery charger hooked up during the night on the battery.
A couple of winter back, we had -20° and no problem.

With FES you can't do that. You have to modify the ECU code. If you are interested give me PN or visit my homrpage.
