K line to pins and ELM327

Post by Ternero » 03 Feb 2010, 19:27

Hello again, Yani:

Besides pins 1, 3, 7 and 9, will have new pins needed to access to new ECU's that you plan ADD ???
Now may access to Engine, ABS, Airbag and Steering by those pins.
Matter is if you will add another kind of ECU's and if those new ECU's will need use another pins to access by K line.

About ELM327 support:
Also will need use those pins 1, 3, 7 and 9 to access to Engine, ABS, Airbag and Steering ???
I think than ELM327 interfaces, also only use pin7 to connect to K line, and pins 6-14 to access to CAN bus, beause of this chip is mainly used to connect with OBD compatible Cars to diagnose Engine, not another ECU's

This is what I know for the pins on the diagnostic connector used in Fiat Stilo:
1-ABS
3-Airbag
6-CAN B
7-Engine/Gearbox
9-Electric Steering
12-Xenon Headlights/Engine Support/Cruise Control
13-Tyre Pressure
14-CAN A

ELM327: Yes, you are right. You need to do the same pin connections to the ELM327 interface as well.

Thanks for your reply, very interesting.

Now question is if some of those pins can not connect with another pins.
For example, you say that pin3 never connect with rest of pins 1, 7, 9.
Which of those all pins may be connected together and which must connect alone ????

Now know:
pins together, 1-7-9
pin alone 3

I understand that CAN bus pins, can not connect together with K line pins, and so also ELM327 use different pins for K line and CAN bus, so not problem about it.
Matter is to know how connect pins 12-13. Alone each one to K line with a switch ???, May shor circuit all those with pins 1-7-9 ???

I want add a switch to KKL cable, to may select ECU to diagnose, now with 2 positions may select 1-7-9 or 3, but if add 12-13 need to know if need alone position or may mix with another pins.
