Air intake value kg/h --> mg/i

Post by coolbits » 10 Aug 2010, 09:56

Hi.
First of all thanks for great software.

I have a little problem.
The air intake value seems to be in kg/h instead of mg/i... on idle (850rpm) i get a value of 49-50 instead of ~300.
Other values are ok.
Is this a problem in software? The car runs great otherwise...

I use ELM1.4 cable on AR 147 1.9 JTD (edc15c7) and latest multiecuscan 2.3.1

I know about this Air Quantity issue.
This happens on some versions of the EDC15C7 ECU, but it is not docummented anywhere. According to the EDC15C7 documentation this parameter is in mg/i.
The only info I have is that the value of this parameter on ECUs with software version C91 and C92 is not valid.

Yani, do you know if this affects the EDC15C7 CF3 ECU from the Stilo JTD, or should that be giving the correct reading mg/i?

Hey all,

I have the same value with FES, but when the dealer checked my car with an Examiner Smart he saw the same value's!

There are some more problems with my car:
the average and current fuel consumption is 1:50 (liters per km).. that takes me arround the world, twice! ...

So not that much of a Bug I guess??

BTW: Bosch EDC15C7

I've ripped apart my whole air intake because of this value :x (and spend quite some money on it too: new airfilter, catchcan, new intake tubes, new IC, visit to dealer trying to update the ECU.. :'()

Better consult here first next time...

BTW: my car does lack some power! it's supposed to go from 80 - 120 in 6/7 seconds, mine does it in 9... (Alfa 156 1.9 JTD 115HP)

problem solved?

found this:

"When reading data from the ECU, the mass air flow is not reported in kg per hour but in mg per stroke. Converting one value to the other is quite simple:

At 900 RPM a 4 cilinder 4 stroke engine makes 900 RPM * 2 strokes/revolution * 60 minutes in one hour = 108,000 strokes. So if the ECU reads 480 mg/stroke at idle, it equals to 108,000 * 480e-6 = 52 kg/hour air flow. 480 mg/stroke is the value you should read with a 1.9L engine during idle when the EGR is closed. One full cilinder filling is 0.48 liter. Air is about 1290 mg per liter. So one could calculate 0.48 * 1290 = 619 mg/stroke. However, the cilinder is not fully filled as it has to suck in the air in a limited amount of time. Therefore the value is a little lower. (If the turbo would be really working at idle, the air flow could be higher than 619 mg/stroke.) The output voltage of a Pierburg MAF during idle and closed EGR is about 1.6V. A Bosch MAF reads about 2.2V in this situation. With a closed EGR you should measure about 480mg/stroke. With a 78% opened EGR you should read about 290 mg/stroke. If the values you find are much lower, something is blocking the air flow or the MAF has gone bad. The air flow can be blocked by a clogged air filter, a clogged intercooler, a (partly) closed anti shudder valve, a clogged intake manifold or bad valves. The intake manifold may clog due to soot/oil as exhaust fumes are fed back into the engine by the EGR and oil is fed into the engine by the CCV. It's also possible that the EGR is stuck open."

Guys,

Is there any more info reg. the ECU bug? in my case Intake Air quantity is between ~60 (when idle) and 450 - desired is between 1200 (idle) and 1200.
Do you think it's due to the EDC15C7 ECU issue?

I'm certain!
Which software version do you have?

I tried 2 ECU's, both EDC15C7 but one with newer software that is NOT available as an update(only available trough buying a new ecu .... !! )
My original ECU has software that ends with the numbers 792 and the new version ends with 242

The newer ECU did not have the problem and showed me a correct intake value..

Thanks for reply mate.

My ECU details:
Software number: 1037363753
Software version: 9241
ECU programming date: 05/06/2002

Are you sure that it's not possible to update the Software version? I'm pretty sure there must be an option to upgrade it....
