FIAT PUNTO ELM 327 TIMEOUT

Post by peternadas » 19 May 2016, 15:14

Hi,

I've just bought an ELM 327 V 1.5a interface. I installed the driver, set the correct port and speed in the control panel, opened Multiecusan, set everything in there as well but when I click on the 'Test' button, I'm getting a timeout failure message for the ATSPC. ATZ: OK; ATI: OK; ATE0: OK; ATL0: OK; ATH0:OK; but ATSPC: Timeout and I can't connect my car (which is a 2006 diesel Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet) at all. Does anyone know, what can be the problem, and how I can fix it? Thanks.

Try to connect using other cable (for example: rent it for a friend). If it will work, it mean, that the cable is probably broken.

Hello peternadas,

I have some info to share about this problem.

First of all, let me mention, that "ELM Electronics" had never released ELM v1.5. This is just a fake Chinese Interface, which uses low cost components replacing the originals implemented in ELM v1.3 and 1.4 interface.
I have recently bought a cheap ELM v1.5 USB interface and had experienced the same problem.

This one is using cheaper CH340 series chip (produced by WinChipHead - http://www.wch.cn/ ) to convert signal to RS232 (serial communication), an NCV7342 instead of MCP2551 CAN transceiver, and may be something like ELM327 OBD to RS232 Interpreter.

The problem comes when you try to connect to to the interface using MES (in my case 3.01R). You get the following result:

Image

In other words it is trying to set the communication protocol to be CAN. Here might be the problem with this fake ELM327 adapter. According to ELM standard, if it tries to SET AT 0, the proper protocol should be automatically set. I'm not 100% sure, may be Yani can confirm, but I think the software is directly trying to set the CAN Protocol ( ISO 15765-4 [CAN] - Diagnostic communication over Controller Area Network [DoCAN]), but according to this standard there are 2 different word lengths with 2 different baud rates:

1. ISO15765-4 CAN (11bit ID, 500 Kbaud)
2. ISO15765-4 CAN (29bit ID, 500 Kbaud)
3. ISO15765-4 CAN (11bit ID, 250 Kbaud)
4. ISO15765-4 CAN (29bit ID, 250 Kbaud)

It could be that timeout comes from improper baud rate.

[-Interesting-]
There are several cracked programs bundled in the interface package, which I have tried. It comes that ScanMaster-ELM somehow was able to connect to my Marea's Bosch Bosch EDC15 ECU. There were even green LEDs blinking, but the data wasn't correct (I've got 200 rpm for engine speed, which was fake). That makes me think, that if the protocol is set to auto or to proper CAN variant, there might be a chance this fake ELM327 interface to work with MES.

If some one can check that it would be nice to share the info here.

Thank you.

Good morning.

I would like to know which resistors would have to be removed from this board of my ELM327 cable to be able to use in the FIAT STILO 1.8 car
