Not exactly the same ECUs. The two free versions are also different, mainly in their ISO numbers.

The one that only the registrated version can handle is type 59F, while the other two can be other types also.
The differences are in EURO2/3/4 regulations, and related stuff.

You need an A3 adapter for certain modules, not a 3 pin adapter. Check the Supported Vehicles page, and the adapter diagram below:

A bad CAN termination resistor causes this symptom. I guess there is a CAN bus fault stored in the ECU if you connect and read it out.

You can read more about this in the faulty elm interfaces demystified topuc. Try to disassemble and post high quality photos of the internal board.

Post a screenshot of your Multiecuscan interface settings and one screenshot of your Windows device manager, Ports category opened. Also, a screenshot of your current interface driver could help. Or simply update your driver to the latest. Is this the same interface you used successfully a few years...
